I love music and I love songwriters even more. These are the people responsible for actually creating the magic. My awesome songwriting team (Citizens of The World Music) are having a 30 Song Challenge. We have 30 instrumentals (by NdaJunior) and each writer in the team (myself, TheJuniorJohn and anyone else who wants to join the fun) each have to write a song and see what different pieces of musical goodness we can come up. So, it’s finally done. Here is the EP/collection of some songs I did in varsity, as a young’in wth just a dream featuring my friends Brenzo and Bhongo. Very soulful, heartfelt, young voice recordings. A bit amateurish (’twas eras ago, lol) but still great messages. Listen to the whole thing in order and the story will unfold itself. This was my breakthrough musically and personally. When you are honest and vulnerable, the message flows out effortlessly. For a while, I was looking for love until I had the biggest a-ha moment in all the land: “when you try, it;s such a lie, you gotta wait till it’s your time, I decided, I decided, no more looking for love”. So here’s what I’ve listened to the most this week and my favourite lyrics from the songs:
1. Katy Perry – Firework
Why? The song makes me feel so inspired. Lyric: “Do you know that there’s still a chance for you, cause there’s a spark in you, you just gotta ignite the light and let it shine”.
2. Alan – Touch Me
Found this song when randomly browsing through Alan’s blog. He let me cover his song, so I’m going to do that this weekend. Look out for it. Lyric: “ I know that you can do it, now I want you to prove it” – a little risque, but whatever, lol. I get “Memoirs” and The Dream vibes.
3. Fantasia – Man Of The House
Why? Because Fantasia is keeping it REAL. Lyric: “If you gon’ be the man, then be the man. ’Cause if you can’t, baby I can!…so figure it out!”. Power to her! This is my fave cut on her “Back To Me” LP
4. Keri Hilson – Breaking Point
Why? Keri ain’t playing. She’s telling you that she doesn’t put up with a man’s junk! Lyric: “My love has a limit!” – she can only take so much.
5. Junior John (of Citizens of The World) – Nitemare
Why? This is my brother. Follow him in twitter (@TheJuniorJohn). This song has an awesome chorus and for some reason, I think it’s about a family member of ours, lol. Lyric: “We all know, including her” – nothing worse than being told that you’re in a bad situation and you also know it…helpless. Go bro! Awesome song.
I was told that this sounds like it would be the theme song to a Paris Hilton type reality show. LOL. not sure about that, but what I’m sure about is that it’s a super fun song. I hope you like it as much as I do. Please comment and download if you so wish. kOOdzi

from “Love Is In The Background” EP
Urban/Rnb/Soul – Back on my falsetto – inspired by Eddie Kendricks (from the Temptations), Maxwell and Robin Thicke. Now that we’ve got the ball rolling on the EP release, I am happy to present to you the 2nd Single. The song is called The Hours and it was inspired by the movies “The Hours” and “A Single Man” – the key concept from those movies is about how to literally get through the hours in the day. The movies are a little depressing so I flipped it and wrote this about happily getting though the hours in the day with the one you love. Hope you like it, tell me what you think.

“The Flavour Boulevard Sessions” Mixtape
Working my falsetto! Robin Thicke what?! Just kidding, he’s amazing. As come of my blog readers will know, I am a songwriter (from the writing group Citizens of The World with my brothers Nda and Nhlanhla)and I am in the process of recording and finishing up my EP/Demo. Whilst in the process of recording, I came across some of my old work from my student days. It was jazz influenced with a drunken Amy Winehouse (but in falsetto) thrown in for good measure. I will drop the full 5 track mixtape called “The Flavour Boulevard Sessions” of old recordings next week featuring Bhongo, Brenzo and myself. In the meantime, listen to this live track I did called Why Do You Say You Love Me?. I wrote it when I was 17 (I don’t know what the hell I thought I knew about love but hey…thsi is a standout if I do say so myself).

I generally hate self-promotion so I’ll keep this short. So for those of you that don’t know, I’m part of a songwriting group with my brothers. We’re called The Citizens Of The World. This one of our songs called Suspicious. It’s a demo for a female singer detailing how a woman feels when her boyfriend is paranoid about whether or not she’s cheating on him.
